Man in court after setting fire to shops on the Coffs Coast

A man is due to face court today after allegedly lighting fires at shops on the Coffs Coast at the weekend.

About 11.30pm on Saturday 12 September 2015, police and emergency services were called to Grafton Street, Coffs Harbour, following reports of a shop fire.

Police from Coffs-Clarence Local Area Command attended and arrested a man, who had been detained by members of the public.

Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze at the store, as well as another at a store on Little Street. Both stores sustained minor damage.

The 57-year-old man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with two counts of damage property by fire, and resist officer in execution of duty.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court later today (Monday 14 September 2015).
