Man charged over alleged bashing outside Surfers toilet block

UPDATE @ 12.30 PM | A man has been charged over the alleged brutal bashing of another man in Surfers Paradise early this morning.

Just after 1.30am, the 33-year-old was walking out of a toilet block on Ferny Avenue when he became involved in an argument with a group of men.

Police say the confrontation escalated, and the man was brutally punched and kicked to the head as he lay on the ground.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and treated the man for serious head injuries before rushing him to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Three men, aged 19, 21 and 26 were arrested in Orchid Avenue a short time later and taken to the local police station.

Following investigations, a 26-year-old man from Carrara was charged with grievous bodily harm.

He’s due to face Southport Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Around 1.30am this morning, the man was leaving a toilet block at a park on Ferny Avenue when he was involved in an argument with a group of men.

Police say the confrontation escalated, and the man was brutally punched and kicked to the head as he lay on the ground.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and treated the 33-year-old Labrador man for serious head injuries.

He has since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The trio, aged 19, 21 and 26 were taken into custody in Orchid Avenue a short time later.

Investigations are ongoing.
