Man injured after being hit by own stolen car at Gold Coast servo

A man has been hospitalised after being run over by thieves who stole his car in Southport in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to a service station along Ferry Road around 3am, following reports a man had been injured while trying to recover his white Volkswagen Golf, which had been stolen from a home on Regatta Parade.

“The owner of the vehicle did not report it stolen to police at the time but went looking for the vehicle locating it at the service station,” A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC.

“He drove in to box it in and got out of the vehicle, at which time the offenders have attempted to drive around the man and the car, but have struck him and the vehicle before fleeing”.

The 50-year-old suffered an injury to his head, gash on his leg and cuts and bruises.

He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

The thieves remain on the run, with investigations continuing.
