A man injured and residents evacuated in Bondi Junction

Emergency services were called to a Bondi Junction unit block this morning, where a man was injured and 30 residents evacuated after an explosion.

A 35-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics at an Old South Head Road residence at around 4:35am, after taking him to St Vincent’s Hospital.

His condition is being described as serious.

The cause of the explosion is at this stage unknown, however police have confirmed the man may have been using a gas heater in his home.

Structural engineers will examine the building before investigators can enter the property.

Traffic was diverted from the area earlier this morning, with one lane still affected.
