Man jailed over one punch manslaughter of Daniel Christie on NYE

One-punch killer Shaun Mcneil has been sentenced to 10 years jail for the manslaughter of Sydney teen Daniel Christie and the assault of two other men on New Years Eve 2013.

Daniel Christie, 18, died in hospital after being punched by 27-year-old Mcneil at Kings Cross in Sydney on New Year’s Eve.

Mcneil’s punch caused Christie to fall to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement.

Mcneil was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter following a trial earlier this year.

He also pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual harm over his attack on Daniel’s brother Peter, as well as to the assault of a teenage boy earlier that evening.

With time already served he will be eligible for parole in 2021.
