Man killed after B-double truck leaves highway and ploughs through paddock

A MAN has been killed after the B-double freight truck he was driving veered off the road and ploughed through a paddock in Central West NSW.

The accident happened at Tooraweenah, about 44km north-east of Gilgandra, around 2.30pm on Saturday.

Police said the man was travelling south along the Newell Highway when his fully-loaded B-double prime mover veered onto the wrong side of the highway.

It’s understood the truck then careened out-of-control down a steep embankment before ploughing through a paddock.

Sadly, the 34-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck could not be saved and died at the scene.

Police said the truck was transporting a mixed freight load at the time of the accident.

A crime scene was established and examined by forensic crash investigators.

The Newell Highway was closed for several hours after the crash while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
