Man killed after car ploughs into pole in early morning crash

A MAN has been killed in a single vehicle crash southwest of Melbourne.

It happened in the Geelong suburb of Lara shortly before sunrise on Saturday.

Police said it was around 5.20am when a car travelling south on Mill Road collided with a pole.

Sadly, the 27-year-old man behind the wheel of the car died at the scene.

At this stage, police said investigators do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

However, police do believe there may have been other drivers in the area around the time who witnessed the incident.
