Man killed in horror head-on crash

A man has died in a horror head-on crash near the NSW and Victoria border.

Just after midday, police and emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway, Euston, following reports a Holden Commodore and a Holden utility had collided head-on.

Witnesses commenced CPR on the driver of the ute, a 54-year-old man, before police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics took over; however, the man could not be revived.

The 24-year-old male driver of the Commodore was taken to Mildura Hospital in a stable condition, where he will undergo mandatory testing.

The Sturt Highway is expected to be closed for a number of hours while specialist forensic officers examine the scene.

Local traffic diversions are in place. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and delay any non-essential travel.

Deniliquin Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
