Man killed in horror light plane crash in northern NSW

A man has died in a fiery light plane crash about 138km west of Moree in the state’s far north.

Emergency crews were called to a property along Moomin Road at Rowena just before midday yesterday, following reports a light plane had crashed into a farm and caught fire.

Neighbouring residents immediately leapt into action and tried to help the pilot escape before emergency services arrived.

A crime scene has been established, with police and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigating what led to the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
