A MAN has been killed and a woman injured in a head-on crash in the NSW Hunter region.
The two vehicles came to grief on Putty Road at Howes Valley, around 60km southeast of Singleton, just before 1.50pm on Sunday.
A man was trapped in the wreckage with life-threatening injuries and sadly, could not be saved.

In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, police confirmed the man died at the scene.
A woman was injured in the collision and treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Part of Putty Road has been declared a crime scene and is being examined by the forensic crash unit.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the head-on collision are continuing.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
