Man leads police on rooftop chase after fire in Sydney car park

A MAN has been arrested after leading police on a dramatic rooftop chase following a fire at an underground carpark in Sydney.

Emergency crews were called to a unit complex on Nobbs Street, Surry Hills around 3.00am on Thursday after receiving numerous reports of a fire.

NSW Police and Fire and Rescue Services were forced to evacuate residents after the blaze quickly spread.


It took around two hours to get the fire, which seemed to centre around a camper trailer and nearby vehicle, under control.

A crime scene was established, and all residents were returned with no injuries, and no smoke damage believed to have been sustained to any units.

Later in the morning, police were called to reports of a break and enter at a rooftop premises in Surry Hills.

Police spotted a man at the premises but he tried to run off, leading officers on a chase across rooftops in order to get away.

Officers managed to catch up with him and placed him under arrest.

He is also accused of being armed with a crowbar.

NSW Police will be addressing the media about the incident later this morning.
