Police appeal for witnesses after fatal pedestrian accident in Broadbeach

UPDATE @ October 30, 7.10 AM | POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man, who was a hit by car at Broadbeach, passed away in hospital overnight.

Police said the 78-year-old man was attempting to cross the road when he was struck on the corner of Albert Avenue and Old Burleigh Road around 10.00am on Sunday.

He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, however sadly died on Sunday afternoon.

EARLIER @ October 29, 8:00 PM | AN elderly man who was run over by a car in Broadbeach on Sunday morning has died.

Police said the 78-year-old man was attempting to cross the road when he was struck on the corner of Albert Ave and Old Burleigh Rd around 10am.

The man was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition where sadly, he died this afternoon.

FIRST AT 11:30 AM | A PEDESTRIAN has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a car on the Gold Coast.

The man was reportedly struck on the corner of Old Burleigh Road and Albert Avenue in Broadbeach around 10am.

Photos uploaded to social media show emergency services working to save the man’s life as he lay injured in the middle of the road.

Paramedics praised the work of witnesses who rushed to help the man immediately after he was hit.

Bystanders used blankets and umbrellas to shield the emergency workers and the injured man from the searing sun.

The man has since been rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition. His age is not known.

It’s understood traffic is being diverted around the area while the Forensic Crash Unit examines the scene.

No further information was available at the time of writing.
