Man lucky to be alive after horror workplace accident on the Gold Coast

A MAN is lucky to be alive after his leg was snapped in half in a horror workplace accident on the Gold Coast.

The scenes unfolded outside an Expansion Street business at Molendinar just before 9am on Friday.

It’s understood the 37-year-old man was standing on the back of a truck, attempting to secure a pile of steel frames when the unstable cargo slid off the tray, collecting the man on the way.

The worker was knocked off the truck and the frames landed on top of him, crushing his legs.

The man’s frantic colleagues rushed to his aid and lifted the frames off his body before paramedics arrived.

Gavin Fuller from the Queensland Ambulance Service said the man was extremely lucky.

“The break was actually quite severe that the bone has penetrated through the skin,” Mr Fuller said.

“He was in quite a fair bit of pain and quite a fair bit of distress.”

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital for treatment.
