The driver of the Mercedes, a 59-year-old man, was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital by Ambulance Paramedics but died a short time later.

Four occupants of the BMW, including the 24-year-old male driver, and three females aged 25, 62 and 57, were trapped in their vehicle for a period of time before being freed.

They were all taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for possible spinal injuries.

Police from Rose Bay Local Area Command are investigating the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Initial investigations suggest the driver of the Mercedes may have suffered a medical episode before the crash.
