Man mowed down by hit-run driver

POLICE are searching for the driver of a car who fled after running over a man on the Gold Coast this morning.

The victim – a 21-year-old man from Burleigh Heads – was walking across Guineas Creek Road when he was struck about 6.30am.

Police said the vehicle – a white Subaru liberty sedan with Queensland registration 581XUP – took off immediately after the incident.

Police believe the Subaru was being driven by a 22-year-old Caucasian man and sustained damage to the front end, including a smashed windscreen.

The 21-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported by ambulance to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police said the patient was transported in a stable condition with a fractured leg and injured shoulder.

Detectives from the Gold Coast District Criminal Investigation Branch and the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have been driving along Guineas Creek Road with a dash camera at the time of the assault is urged to come forward.

Members of the public who spot the vehicle are urged not to approach it, but to call police immediately.
