A MAN accused of murdering his friend by stabbing him to death after a night out drinking on the Gold Coast has pleaded not guilty.
Paul Gathercole appeared in the Brisbane Supreme Court today, pleading not guilty to the gruesome 2014 attack.
The court heard Gathercole stabbed Robbie Joseph Charles in Mermaid Beach with a 27cm-long knife during an argument.

The two men and Mr Charles’ girlfriend had been drinking together at the local surf lifesaving club when they returned home and the frenzied attack took place.
Charles’ girlfriend allegedly told police she saw Gathercole holding a bloodstained machete-type knife, saying: “I’ve done something really wrong.” Only to walk outside and find her partner dying in his driveway.
Gathercole told police that he’d “skitzed off” and been overcome by a drunken rage.
The trial continues.
