Man punched unconscious and robbed in shopping centre carpark

A man has been charged over the brutal assault and robbery of another man in a shopping centre carpark in Banora Point yesterday.

Police say that around 6.30pm, a man was allegedly approaching people in a car park on Fraser Drive asking them for money.

He was declined a number of times before he became physical, grabbing a 29-year-old man on the shoulder and demanding his wallet.


The man refused to hand over his wallet and was then allegedly punched in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

Police say that while the man was lying unconscious on the ground, his attacker allegedly lent over him and stole money from his wallet.

After a short foot pursuit, the man was arrested not far from the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery, demand money with menace and intimidation.
