Man refused bail charged with assaulting Police on traffic duty

A man has been refused bail charged with assaulting Police who were directing traffic in Surfers Paradise.

Benjamin Cant, 32, allegedly became aggressive towards officers who were on traffic duty at a roadworks site on Ferny Ave near Surfers Paradise Boulevard around 9.40pm on Tuesday night.

He’s accused of trying to kick and punch the officers multiple times.

One officer tried to deploy his taser but it was unsuccessful.

After a short struggle, Cant was eventually restrained and taken into custody.

One of the officers suffered cuts to his arm and face and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Cant will reappear in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
