Man remains on the run after escaping from NSW prison

A man remains on the run after escaping from a correctional centre in Glenn Innes last Monday.

Steven Barber was last seen in a room within the minimum security facility about 5.30pm on Monday 19 September.

About 1.05am the following day, correctional officers noticed that the window of his room was smashed and he was missing.

A search for the 39-year-old has been ongoing ever since, however police are yet to locate him.

Yesterday, police received unconfirmed reports a man fitting the description of Steven Barber was sighted about 20km north of Glen Innes around the area of the New England Highway.

Steven Barber is described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 180cm to 185cm tall, about 80kg in weight, with a medium build, and short brown hair.

He has tattoos of boxing gloves on his back, a tattoo of a snake on his left forearm and was last seen wearing a green prison uniform.

Police are urging anyone with information, or anyone who knows the whereabouts of Mr Barber, to come forward.
