Man rushed to hospital after being stabbed through car window

Police are appealing for information following a stabbing in Newcastle this afternoon.

About 12.50pm a man was driving along Steele Street, when he was stabbed by a man through his open car window.

The offender fled on foot, and was last seen running south-east on King Street


Police were called to the location and a patrol of the area continues however police have released a description of the man who may be able to assist with inquiries into the incident.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, with a medium build and brown hair. He is also described as having a tanned complexion and stubble on his face and a mole on his left cheek. At the time the man was wearing dark shorts and a dark shirt and carrying a black backpack.

The driver, aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

At this time he is not cooperating with police.
