Man sentenced to 6.5 years in jail after hit-and-run in Tallai

A man charged over a hit-and-run on a Tallai road, which left a young father in a coma for months, has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years jail.

Minna Hanna faced Southport District Court his morning after pleading guilty to several charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.

The court heard Andrew Mavridis and Hanna had set up a drug deal at Tallai on May 3, 2016.

However, when Mr Mavridis realised he wasn’t going to get the drugs he wanted, he stood on the side step of Hanna’s 4WD as it was driven away.

He fell off after the vehicle reached speeds up to 80km/h suffering serious head injuries which left him permanently disabled.

Hanna will be eligible for parole on March 7, 2018.
