Man critical after suspected coward punch attack in Surfers

UPDATE @ October 28, 12.30pm: A man has been charged over a brutal one-punch attack in Surfers Paradise on Friday morning.

It is alleged around 3.00am, a 23-year-old man was attempting to break-up a fight between two groups of men on Orchid Avenue when he was punched from behind, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The men involved in the fight fled the scene but were located by police at The Esplanade a short time later.

A 29-year-old man from Home Hill has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is expected to face the Southport Magistrates Court today.

A second man, aged 27 from no fixed place of abode, who was also questioned over the incident has been charged with public nuisance and will face the Southport Magistrates Court on November 15.

EARLIER @ October 28, 6.10AM: Police have confirmed a 23-year-old man is in a critical condition after a cowards punch attack in Surfers Paradise on Friday morning.

It’s understood two groups of men got in to an argument on Orchid Avenue around 3.00am when the Oxenford local was punched from behind, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.

He’s in the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The men involved in the fight fled the scene but were located by police at The Esplanade a short time later.

Two men, aged 27 and 29 years old, are assisting police with their investigation.

EARLIER @ October, 28 4.50AM: A young man has been rushed to hospital after a suspected coward punch attack in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of Friday morning.

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed a man, believed to be in his early 20’s, was attacked on Orchid Avenue around 3.00am.

A man is assisting police with their inquiries.

Reports suggest the victim has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
