Man seriously hurt after jumping from moving train into Melbourne river

A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after he jumped off the back of a moving train and into a river in Melbourne on Friday afternoon.

Police have been told the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, got on the rear coupler of an inbound train from Hawthorn around 1:15pm local time.

As the train reached the Richmond area, the man was seen to leap from the train into the Yarra River.


An ambulance was called and transported the man to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Police believe the man was taking part in thrill-seeking behaviour.
