Man seriously hurt, woman and child injured after van rams broken down family sedan

POLICE are investigating a two-car crash which left a man seriously hurt and a woman and child with minor injuries in South Penrith this morning.

The accident happened at about 8.30am along The Northern Road when a van crashed into the back of a broken down Holden sedan.

Police said two occupants of the Holden, a man and a woman, were at the front of the vehicle attempting to repair it while their child remained restrained in the back seat when the collision occurred.

The van rammed into the back of the stationary sedan at such a force, it was jolted forward, striking the man and woman before mounting the curb where it came to rest.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital suffering serious injuries.

The female at the front of the Holden and the restrained child were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The two males in the van, both believed to be aged in their 20s, were not injured.

Fortunately, no bystanders were injured.

Investigations by the Crash Investigation Unit are continuing.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
