Man seriously injured in bogged 4WD incident

A MAN has been seriously injured after his 4WD became bogged while off-roading in Penrith overnight.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident which occurred at a fire trail waterhole off Devlin Road at Penrith, about 9.20pm (Sunday 12 July 2015).

Emergency services were called to the scene after the 4WD became bogged and the man was hit in the back of the head by a shackle or a snatch strap, when other drivers attempted to pull his vehicle free.

The man suffered life-threatening head injuries and was flown by helicopter to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

A crime scene has been established and specialist officers are at the scene investigating the incident.
