Man shot dead after killing son during cricket training

THERE have been shocking scenes at a Victorian cricket ground, leaving a boy and his father both dead.

Witnesses claim the man, 54, lost control and stabbed his son to death during cricket training at Tyabb Cricket Ground on the Mornington Peninsula last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save the 11-year-old boy.

News.com.au reports, four police officers tried to subdue the man with capsicum spray before shooting him in the chest.

He was taken to The Alfred hospital where he died about 1.30am.

The incident shocked the local community, with one resident describing it as “bloody horrific”.

Young children are among the witnesses police are speaking to.
