Man shot dead after alleged stabbing attack at WA shopping centre

A man has been shot dead by police after reportedly going on a stabbing rampage at a shopping centre in Western Australia.

The terrifying scenes unfolded around 10.00am on Friday at the South Hedland Square Shopping Centre.

It’s understood a man, armed with a knife, stabbed a number of innocent shoppers before being shot by responding police.

“Police can confirm that a male has died as a result of the incident at the South Hedland Square Shopping Centre,” WA police said in a statement.

They also confirmed that a number of people received injuries and are currently being treated at Hedland Health Campus.

“Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding how these people received the injuries,” WA police said.

“As per normal protocols, Major Crime Division and Professional Standards Division will investigate the circumstances surrounding the police shooting.”

Officers confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
