Man shot dead by police in SA

A man has been shot and killed by police during a siege in South Australia.

According to initial reports, police were called to the man’s address in the Elwomple area at around 7pm on Wednesday.

When the patrol arrived, the man refused to cooperate with police and ran back into the house.

Further police resources, including STAR Group, negotiators and the police helicopter, attended the scene.

Over the course of several hours, the man shot at police.

Just before midnight, the man allegedly shot at STAR Group officers, who returned fire, fatally wounding the man.

STAR Group officers attempted CPR, however, the 50-year-old man died at the scene.

Investigators from Major Crime Investigation Branch and Physical Evidence Section attended the scene and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
