Police have shot dead a man who was being pursued after a vicious attack on a woman on the NSW mid-north coast.
The 36-year-old man allegedly stabbed a woman in her twenties repeatedly in Port Macquarie last night,
The woman was then reportedly doused in petrol and found in a pool of blood in a neighbours’ garage.

The 28-year-old was rushed to hospital with significant injuries and police launched a large-scale hunt for the man.
It’s believed she met the 36-year-old man on Tinder, and he’d attacked her before fleeing.
Around 9:45pm officers attemped to pull over a car on the Pacific Highway at Bonville, around two hours north of where the incident occurred.
Following a confrontation, the man was shot and killed by police.
A critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident including the discharge of a police firearm.
