5.20PM: TRAFFIC on the Gold Coast’s M1 is beginning to return to normal after an earlier accident threw the afternoon commute into chaos.
The accident has been cleared and traffic, which is still banked back to Beenleigh, is slowly starting to move through the area as per normal.
Local service roads are still jammed as motorists flee the Pacific Motorway to avoid the lengthy delays.

4.45PM: TRAFFIC has been thrown into chaos after a multi-vehicle crash on the M1 at Oxenford this afternoon.
There are reports one southbound lane was initially closed to traffic as emergency services responded and cleared the scene.
It is not know how many vehicles were involved in the accident, which is said to have occurred shortly before 3.30pm.
As at 4.45pm, extreme delays were still being experienced between Oxenford and Ormeau, Exits 45 to 57, with traffic beginning to back up to Beenleigh.
Local service roads are also jammed as motorists scramble to try and avoid the incident.
Motorists are advised to take care, show patience and delay their journey if possible.
