Man stabbed after midnight fight breaks out on Gold Coast street

A MAN has been stabbed and another man punched in the head after a fight broke out on a Gold Coast street overnight.

It’s understood a 47-year-old man and 22-year-old man were walking along Mattocks Road in Varsity Lakes around 11.45pm when they came across a group of five men and a woman.

A violent altercation is believed to have broken out between the pair and the group, with the older man suffering a stab wound to his upper body and the younger man sustaining a head injury after being punched a number of times.

The group then allegedly fled the scene whilst the two men made their way to a nearby park on Cassia Drive where they called emergency services.

The 47-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 22-year-old man was also hospitalised with a head injury, however he’s believed to be stable.

The group are assisting police with enquiries after being tracked down at a nearby home.
