Man stabbed in back in Southport, another assaulted and mugged

Police are on the hunt for a pair of thugs over a stabbing attack in Southport last night.

A man in his 40s was leaving a licensed venue on Garden Street around 3.00 am when he was confronted by two people and an altercation broke out.

The man was stabbed with an unknown object in the back and had to be hospitalised.

Critical care paramedics were called to the scene and took him to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The offenders had fled the scene before emergency services arrived but a second person was found nearby with injuries as well.

The 26-year-old had also had his wallet stolen, according to a police spokesperson.

It’s still not clear if the two offenders were responsible for both attacks, but investigations are continuing this morning.
