Man stabbed in neck at sports ground

A MAN has been bashed and stabbed in the neck after being ambushed at a sports field in Sydney’s west.

Police said the 18-year-old was taking part in an event at Peter Hislop Park in Auburn about 6pm on Thursday.

It’s understood the man was at the park for around one hour and 45 minutes before he was confronted by an unknown group of males at the main entrance.

It’s alleged the group asked the man to follow them to a dark, unlit area but he refused.

That’s when it’s alleged two of males in the group punched him repeatedly in the head before stabbing him in the back and in the neck.

The 18-year-old was taken to Westmead Hospital with several puncture wounds, police said.

Police are still searching for the man’s attackers.

One of the men has been described as being Pacific Islander/Maori in appearance, 180cm tall and aged in his 20s with a thin build and dark coloured beard.

He was wearing a dark hooded jumper and tracksuit pants, and white coloured Nike brand shoes.

There is no clear description of the other men.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to come forward.
