Man stabbed, struck with tomahawk during frightening robbery

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was stabbed then hit with a tomahawk during a robbery in Surry Hills overnight.

About 10.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 25 August 2015), a 35-year-old man was walking near Nichols Street, Surry Hills, when he was approached by two men described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance.

One of the men produced a knife and stabbed the victim to his arms and legs. He was also struck with a tomahawk during the incident, before the men fled with his wallet and mobile phone.


The man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not life threatening.

Police from Surry Hills are conducting inquiries into the incident and are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time to come forward.
