Man to stand trial for murder of Qld schoolgirl Jayde Kendall

The man accused of killing Gatton schoolgirl Jayde Kendall has admitted he took her life.

However, Brenden Jacob Bennetts pleaded not guilty to murder in Brisbane’s Supreme Court on Monday.

The 21-year-old denies murdering the 16-year-old, instead requesting to face trial on the lesser charge of manslaughter.

He entered a guilty plea to manslaughter, but that was rejected by prosecutors.

He also pleaded guilty to interfering with a corpse.

It’s alleged an 18-year-old Bennetts murdered Jayde in August 2015, after picking her up from school in the country town, west of Brisbane.

It’s alleged he dumped her body in a paddock, where it was found two weeks later following a frantic search of the area.

A jury is expected to be empanelled on Monday morning for the two week trial.
