Man struck by ambulance on NSW highway

A man has been taken to hospital after being run over by an ambulance while trying to cross a busy highway in Sydney’s west.

The man was struck on the Great Western Highway, near the intersection of Belinda Place, at Mays Hill around 6pm last night.

Police said the man was attempting to walk across the highway when he was hit by an ambulance.


Police said the ambulance was not on urgent duty at the time.

The man was taken to Westmead Hospital with facial injuries.

He is believed to be aged in his 20s.

The paramedic who was driving the ambulance at the time of the collision was breath tested at the scene.

The paramedic returned a negative result.

Police are investigating the events leading up to the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police is urged to come forward.
