Man struck by car and killed after surviving crash on M1

A MAN who survived a crash on the Pacific Motorway overnight was killed just minutes later when he was struck by another vehicle while crossing the highway.

Initial information indicates the 27-year-old man was driving north on the Tugun Bypass at around 1am on Saturday morning when it’s believed he was involved in a single vehicle accident.

The man is said to have escaped serious injury and his car came to rest near the centre divide of the multi-lane highway.

Following the crash, police say the man got out of his car and appeared in lane one of the northbound lanes where he was struck by an oncoming car.

He died at the scene.

The motorway was closed to all northbound traffic and motorists were diverted onto the Gold Coast Highway for several hours as police examined the scene.

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.
