A MAN has tragically died after being hit by a cargo train in Western Australia.
The man was struck at Kalgoorlie, around 600km east of Perth, around 1.45am on Sunday.
The freight train was headed northeast and reportedly struck the man near the Piccadilly Street crossing.

Sadly, the man sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.
Perth Now reports the man is believed to be a 28-year-old local from Lamington.
He was still yet to be formally identified on Sunday morning.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
