Man struck by tram on the Gold Coast

UPDATE 3:45 | A MAN has surprisingly escaped with only minor injuries after being hit by a tram at Broadbeach.

The man was riding a pushbike across the tracks on the Gold Coast Highway when he was struck around 2.05pm on Saturday.

He sustained only minor injuries and was assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The Gold Coast Highway was partially closed following the incident but has since reopened to traffic.

Tram services have also resumed between Broadbeach South and Cavill Avenue stations.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

EARLIER 2:20PM | A MAN has been struck by a tram on the Gold Coast Highway at Broadbeach.

The accident happened just after 2pm. There are reports the man was riding a pushbike when he was hit.

He is currently being treated by paramedics at the scene. His condition is not known.

Police are urging people to avoid the area while emergency services respond.

Northbound traffic on the Gold Coast Highway has been restricted to just one lane through the area.

Tram services have also been suspended in both directions between Broadbeach South and Cavill Avenue.
