Man suffers life threatening injuries after being run over by a van in NSW

A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after being run over by a van in Sydney’s southwest.

The 74-year-old was hit while attempting to cross the Burwood Road at Belmore around 10.10am on Friday.

Police said the man sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a white Renault Master panel van.

Paramedics worked to stabilise the elderly man at the scene before rushing him to hospital for treatment.

Police said the man was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The 58-year-old man behind the wheel of the van was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit examined the scene and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Burwood Road and Leyland Parade and witnessed the crash to come forward.
