A security guard has been threatened and had knives thrown towards him during a violent robbery at a Nerang shopping centre.
Police say it all started when a man began a verbal fight with three other men at a shopping centre on Station Street, around 5.45pm on Saturday.
A short time later the man smashed his way into a plastic display cabinet to steal two knives from a nearby supermarket.

He was approached and questioned by a security guard about the theft, but just walked away.
He then turned back and threw one of the knives at the security guard. It narrowly missed him, landing at his feet.
The security guard continued to follow the man as he walked into the carpark, where he asked for him to hand over the other knife.
But, the man then threatened the security guard before throwing the second knife towards him.
He missed once again and the security guard was not injured.
The violent robber (pictured) got into a white Mitsubishi station wagon, with Queensland registration 032TYM, and drove off.
He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, around 178cm tall with a medium build. He is believed to be aged in his mid-20s, with short blonde/brown hair and was wearing a white t-shirt with a black anchor on the back, white shorts, and red and white adidas shoes.
The man also has a sleeve tattoo on his right arm and a tattoo on his lower right leg.
Police are appealing for public assistance, particularly anyone who was in the carpark that may have mobile phone or dashcam footage, to contact them.
