Man tied and bound in ro

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted armed robbery, where a man was tied and detained at Barrack Heights yesterday.

About 3.45pm (Wednesday 15 July 2015), a 53-year-old man was in his campervan parked on Hunter Street when he answered a knock at the door.

Police have been informed two men at the door identified themselves as police officers, showing what appeared to be police badges, and asked to enter the van.

When the man asked for additional identification, one of the men forced the man into the van and produced a knife, before applying tape over his eyes, and around his legs and hands.

The armed man demanded money, before a relative of the 53-year-old man approached the scene to inquire.

The armed pair fled the scene empty handed.

Emergency services were called and officers attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command established a crime scene.

The man was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics for cuts to his arms, hands and head.

As police continue their inquires, they would like to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information.
