Man to face court after attempting to rob Miami service station

A MERMAID Beach man will face court today, after he attempted to rob a service station at Miami last night.

It is alleged around 9.50pm the man, armed with a knife, entered the Gold Coast Highway premises and made demands for money from the male console operator.

Another male employee of the service station confronted the man with a large pole. The man fled the scene in a car without obtaining any money.

Around 10.20pm a police officer on patrol intercepted the vehicle on the Gold Coast Highway at Miami.

The offender was taken into custody and his vehicle searched where it is alleged the knife was located.

A 31-year-old Mermaid Beach man has been charged with attempted armed robbery.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.
