Man accused of brutally bashing GC paramedic granted bail

UPDATE: A man accused of bashing a paramedic on the Gold Coast has been released on bail to attend his mother’s funeral this afternoon.

Matthew Stirling appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning, charged with assaulting a paramedic in a heartless attack on Friday night.

The 25-year-old was charged with common assault and serious assault of a public officer after he bashed a paramedic who tried to help him when he fell unconscious due to overdosing on prescription medication.


In court this morning, Magistrate Callaghan said the attack was appalling.

The Parkwood man was granted bail under the condition that he report to police daily.

He is due back in court on January 21.

EARLIER: A man accused of brutally bashing a Gold Coast paramedic in a heartless attack over the weekend is due to appear in court today.

Around midnight 12 December, a male paramedic attended a Days Road address after receiving reports that a man was laying unconscious on the road.

While the paramedic was attempting to place the man in the ambulance he was attacked and suffered injuries to the left side of his face.

The paramedics was taken to Pindara Hospital for treatment to an eye injury while the man was charged with common assault and serious assault of a public officer.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
