Tragically, the body of a man, believed to be the 81-year-old occupant, was located inside the home.
Just a few hours later, fire crews were called to a house fire on High Street at Parkes.
Fire fighters managed to extinguish the flames, however the house was completely destroyed.
The female resident, a 46-year-old woman, sustained extensive burns. She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to Concord Hospital.
The bodies of two Great Danes were also found in the front rooms of the house.
Police say initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electric heater.
Crime scenes have been established at both homes, with investigations underway.
