Man uses car as weapon, drives at pedestrians in Sydney street brawl

A MAN has allegedly used his car as a weapon and driven it towards a group of pedestrians in Sydney.

The dramatic scenes played out on Mawson Road at Tregear, in the city’s west, around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said a brawl had broken out in the street, with offenders arming themselves with machetes and poles.

It is alleged a 46-year-old man then jumped into a car and started driving it at speed towards pedestrians.

One of the offenders in the crowd allegedly hurled a brick at the driver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Police swooped and arrested six people, five of whom were charged with affray and going armed with intent.

The driver of the car was also charged with driving recklessly at a dangerous speed and menacing driving.

Four of the males were released on conditional bail, while a 16-year-old boy was remanded in custody.

He is due to front a Children’s Court today.

Police said the sixth person arrested at the scene was released pending further inquiries.
