Man and women killed in horror early morning head-on crash

A MAN and a woman have been killed in a horror head-on crash with a truck in northern New South Wales.

The couple was travelling along the Newell Highway on Saturday morning when their Holden Commodore collided head-on with a northbound truck roughly 20km south of Moree shortly after 7.30am.

The man and woman, whose ages have not been released, sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.

The 42-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck escaped uninjured. He was taken to Moree District Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.
