Manhunt underway after sexual assault and robbery attempt on the Gold Coast

Police are calling on public assistance to locate a man who sexually assaulted a woman in an attempted robbery in Varsity Lakes.

The alleged incident took place on Saturday night when the girl in her late teens was walking along Mattocks Road and saw a man arguing on his phone just after 8.00pm.

As she walked past, he attempted to grab the bag off her shoulder before touching her inappropriately.

The girl was not physically injured during the incident and was able to run back in the direction she came from.

Police believe the man fled along Mattocks Road empty-handed.

So far, patrols have failed to locate the man, though a computer-generated image of the man has since been released.

He’s described as Caucasian with a proportionate build, around 30 years old, 180 centimetres tall and has blonde hair.

It’s understood he was wearing a black pull-over hoodie, dark grey tracksuit pants and orange shoes.

Anyone who recognises this man is urged to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
