Manhunt underway after gunman opens fire on police in NSW

A MAJOR manhunt is underway for a gunman who allegedly opened fire on a house before shooting at a number of police officers in Wollongong, south of Sydney overnight.

Police say officers were patrolling the suburb of Bellambi around 11.30pm when they noticed a man running from a house on Armour Street.

The homeowner approached officers and told them that a number of shots had been fired into his house.

It’s alleged the suspect then fired a shot towards three officers as they chased him toward a track on Bott Drive.

Police terminated the foot pursuit and the armed man fled the scene.

While searching the area, officers located a firearm that had been dumped outside a house on Bott Drive.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the shooting, which police believe was a targeted attack.
