While the man’s injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported by ambulance to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene has been established and a search is now underway for the victim’s attacker.

Police are treating the incident as a “targeted attack” and say the two men are known to each other.
